Fantastic Polish Christmas Dinner Desserts

Christmas is fast approaching it's about time to think about what types of desserts are you having for Christmas dinner. Of course you can always do away with Christmas sweets but you can always add a special Polish dessert.

For a spirited dessert, try serving a baba rumowa or buttermilk rum cake. It is a Polish holiday favorite usually adorned with holly and ivy. It has a dense buttery crumb soaked up in rum. The rum makes it moist and with glaze it has a longer shelf life than other cakes. However, the rum doesn't burn off during baking making this cake "for adults only". To make your kids happier after Christmas dinner, why not give them some jelly beans, liqourice wands or other type of Christmas sweets?

Although the kompot looks a bit unsightly, it contains many great flavors. Just like Christmas sweets that can make you instantly happy, this desert is believed to have medicinal properties. It is because it is made from 12 different dried fruits to represent the Apostles. However, it can be made with just a combination of two or more fruits and can still taste great. If you can resist devouring it all up in one setting; being sure to refrigerate it to last a week more.

This next fantastic desert is commonly served on Easters. Yet it can be a great Christmas dinner dessert. The mazurek or Polish flat cake is just an inch thick. It is an eye catcher since it looks like a bejeweled pastry with meringue, dried fruits and nut toppings. It can also be plain looking but with a jam filling. If you still want to add more colors, sprinkle it with some Christmas sweets cheery lips or floral gums for the kids to have more fun.
